Each case is unique and
estimating the cost of a given matter requires an
initial consultation to allow the attorney to gather
the information pertinent and necessary to make a
cost estimate. A law office that can easily
give a blanket cost for a given action or matter
with little information about the case prior to
making an estimate may foreshadow a decreased
quality of representation.
After discussing the matter with you at the initial
consultation, an hourly rate will be quoted to you
by an attorney. You will additionally be
responsible for such items as court costs, filing
fees, service of pleadings, appraisals, expert
witness fees, as well as all other items outlined in
the contract you will be given at first appearance.
You will be charged for consultations,
correspondence, phone calls, office and research
work, preparation time, court time, filing, and
hearings as well as anything else outlined in the
contract. In the event your
spouse is ordered to contribute to your attorney's
fees you will be given credit for the amount your
spouse pays. A retainer is
required for all criminal cases. The amount of
that retainer will be discussed and negotiated
during the initial consultation after sufficient
time has been taken to determine the amount of work
which will be involved. |
